The Solstice Arts Festival is held annually on the third Saturday in June. Summer solstice was the time of year chosen to hold the festival for the positive mood, excitement and feeling of relaxing fun that the beginning of summer inspires in everybody. The festival originated as an event to celebrate the fine arts and give artists a chance to bring their talents to the public. The growing interest from artists, musicians, chefs, performers and a culture seeking public have fueled the continued expansion of this unique arts festival. Artists from as far away as North Carolina to New York have planted their booths in Shippensburg for a day. The number of visitors doubled from the first festival to the second, and we are anticipating an even larger response this year. The festival is held at the Shippensburg Township Park on Britton road. The park was chosen for its pleasant country setting and ample parking. The park features a large amphitheater, open grassy areas, restroom facilities, picnic pavilions, playgrounds, water features to cool off under, and access to the Cumberland Valley Rails to Trails for those who want to wander under the trees.
